It’s early in the morning and your alarm goes off. The grind of the day is just beginning.
You may start your day with a mindful prayer or a hopeful journal entry, sealing your heart’s intentions in positive ways. But what comes next?
Making the bed every morning is a quick task I have grown to love about my morning routine. It is a simple yet profound way to show the world I am ready for more, even if no one sees it. More importantly, I see it.
As an entrepreneur, my home is my office…but also my sanctuary. It is where I work yet also where I play. Everything happens under this one dynamic roof, which makes the need to keep it tidy even more necessary.
It is one less thing I have to keep in the back of mind.
A walk to the restroom as I pass my bed can serve as a little pick-me-up when things are in order. Especially when the bed is giving off a hotel-like presence. Often I wondered what secrets 5-star hotels all seemed to know that I didn’t when it came to bedding. Have you ever wondered these thoughts as well?
“Why does this bed look so amazing?!”
“How did they get their comforter sooo…COMFY?”
“Oh my gawd…were these sheets made with clouds?”
With a little research and personal practice, I was able to find out some common practices of the luxury hospitality industry for you to bring home. I recommend selecting the attributes that resonate the most with you to help conquer the day just by getting out of bed.
A WORKING MATTRESS
Before we do anything to your mattress, how is the condition? A mattress typically has a 10-yr lifespan, that could be a lot of time with bad quality. A comfy mattress alone can be a costly expense, if not the highest expense in your bedroom. However, it can provide life-changing rest and comfort in your own home for years to come. For those who are looking for the best bed without the cost, you might want to look into mattress toppers/pads
The luxury cloud-like bedding you get at a 5-star stay is usually in the 300-thread-count mark. Cotton is the go-to for the industry because they’re the most breathable and help you stay cool. However, commercial linens are very popular which tend to be a cotton-poly blend. It’s easier to clean, wrinkles less and last longer than cotton:
DRESSED IN WHITE
The crisp white sheets are symbolic of cleanliness, peacefulness and luxury. This is a hotel staple that would also translate well in your home. But, I get it! Not everyone is ready to rid themselves of bedding flair and personality. Keep reading for my suggestion on how to infuse color, pattern and style back into your personal bed.
NOT YOUR AVERAGE DUVET
When it comes to an aesthetically pleasing comforter, these will never be found in the same bag with your sheets. Look for an insert that is around 2 inches wider and longer than your duvet cover. You could even size up for example, purchase a king comforter for a queen duvet. A down comforter paired with a cotton duvet is popular, but I opted out because I am not a fan of the occasional loose feathering. Here are some of my selects:
Pillows are like the accessories to the outfit, it shows your personality and just brings everything together. This is where you can have some fun with color, texture and patterns if you decide to keep the bedding all white. Having a variety of sizes and shapes can create the balance needed to complete the bed. Two – four pillows for sleeping comfort with accent pillows as the cherry on top. Is there such a thing as too many pillows? That my friend, is up to you!
Your nightstand(s) will help to ground the space in which your bed exists. It is a support for your nighttime routine but with a little curation and clutter management, it will also serve as a beautiful accent that gives vocality to your overall message or vibe in the room.
