Winter Lip Care for Super Soft Lips

Beauty

Lips, however rosy, must be fed. -OVID

Whether you are excited for winter or not, the colder air is coming or is already here (depending where you live)! It is time to get your skincare ready for the drop in temperature and moisture. Usually, the skin on our lips are the first indicators of dryness and lack of hydration. Speaking from experience, this can be very uncomfortable which has developed my bad habit of picking and peeling in the past – a habit that can cause bruising and even scarring.

However, this is something you can completely avoid by using the tips in this guide. Here are 5 tips to keep those lips of yours super soft, supple and hydrated all winter long:

Tip #1 Exfoliate

By exfoliating, you are not just removing the dead skin cells that are no longer serving you, you are allowing for any product you use after to work more efficiently. Exfoliation is our skincare friend and a great step to accessing your skin at its true current state before attempting to repair.

Tip #2 Sleep in a Lip Mask

Yup, they make those too! Leave all the hard work to the mask as you sleep and wake up to softer, fuller and supple lips than you had the day before. Lately, I’ve been using the Fruit Butter Lip Mask from Seraphine Botanicals, an Ipsy find and it has been working great so far. One thing to note: on my dark skin, it shows up as a creamy off-white color that desperately needs blending. It’s something I only wear strictly to bed, which is what it’s intended for anyway.

Tip #3 Prep with Aquaphor

Aquaphor is an everyday staple in our household. It is what I use as my son’s lotion which keeps his mild case of eczema away. But I also use it as part of my lip care routine. Before I start doing my makeup, I like to apply this to my lips. My lips are always the last thing I do in my routine and by then, the Aquaphor has already penetrated my lips with the utmost hydration. With enough time to work, I simply wipe it off and it leaves the perfect base for any lip application thereafter.

Tip #4 Use a Plumping Lippie

A lip product that will add color and plumping hydration to your lips is a 2 for 1 bonus in my opinion. If I ever skip tip #3 but know I need the boost, I am picking up one of these products that actually work: Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer + Plump by Fenty Beauty or the Vamigas Lip Oil.

Tip #5 Stay Hydrated

Beauty really does start from the inside out and what you feed your body matters. Drink enough  water to keep not only your body functioning at its best but also to keep your lips from cracking and peeling, exactly what we are wishing to avoid this winter.

Stay soft my loves,

Xx
